Council provides oversight for chaplains,
the Christ for the World Chapel

for congregations and denominations,
coordination of public policy advocacy
and outreach through mass media
on behalf of the church community.
....It
convenes religious leaders to examine
and take action on issues such as
housing and homelessness and the
plight of the poor generally. Its
pastors¡¯ conferences provide significant
training for local clergy of all
denominations. The Council also
provides leadership for the Commission
of Religious Leaders of New York
City, which it helped form in 1999
to bring together the New York Board
of Rabbis, the Roman Catholic Archdiocese
of New York and the Diocese of Brooklyn,
and the Islamic Leadership Council.
The Council created the Care for
the Caregivers Interfaith Project
which focused on the clergy of all
faiths and their personal mental
health so as to keep them effective
in serving their people in trau-matic
times. This highly effective program
functioned for five years after
the 9/11 attack on New York City.
